Venez célébrer sa parution en présence de plusieurs des écrivaines et artistes qui l'ont conçue. Leila Pourtavaf, Helena Reckitt, G.B. Jones, Thérèse St-Gelais, Manon Tourigny, Roxanne Arsenault et Cecilia Berkovic seront présentes pour discuter de leur contributions au livre et célébrer avec La Centrale Galerie Powerhouse. Féminismes Électriques regroupe des essais et textes d’artistes évoquant les préoccupations de la dernière décennie à la galerie. Les textes sont largement influencés par les discours contemporains sur le féminisme et par le renouvellement du mandat de ce centre d’artistes autogéré ; qui se veut désormais un espace plus inclusif, engagé avec un large éventail de perspectives esthétiques et critiques informés par le genre, les politiques de représentation et le dialogue inter-générationel. Cet ouvrage interroge les différents processus institutionnels et discursifs à travers desquels l'art est produit et distribué. En effet, les artistes féministes ont redéfini les pratiques artistiques et ont questionné les questions de genre, de pouvoir et de la représentation. Dès les premières pages, une question fondamentale est posée: comment pouvons-nous comprendre et appliquer une politique féministe, dans nos pratiques artistiques et culturelles qui possèdent un regard critique sur les rapports de pouvoir au sein de notre société? Coordonné par Leila Pourtavaf, le livre met en vedette des essais d’Helena Reckitt, deThérèse St-Gelais, de Trish Salah ainsi que de Bernadette Houde et Aneessa Hasmi, des conversations entre Manon Tourigny,  Stephanie Chabot etDominique Pétrin, entre Reena Katz etJumana Manna et enfin entre Onya Hogan-Finlay et Chris Kraus. Abondamment illustré, il inclut une affiche de l’artiste G.B Jones ainsi qu’un calendrier détaillé, d’une décennie de programmation à la galerie préparé par Roxanne Arsenault. Le graphisme est de Cecilia Berkovic. FÉMINISMES ÉLECTRIQUES a été coédité avec Les Éditions du rémue-ménage.  Il est distribué par DIMEDIA et Art Metropole. Féminismes Électriques considers the evolution of feminist artistic practices over the last decade at La Centrale Galerie Powerhouse, a feminist artist-run center in Montréal with a 40 year history of exhibiting some of the most exciting local, national and international feminist and women artists. The collection features essays and artist texts that engage with current debates about the evolution of feminism, and the re-orientation of La Centrale’s mandate in light of such debates. Taking into account the different institutional and discursive processes through which art is produced and circulated, feminist artists have reconceptualized art practices to examine questions of gender, power and representation. They have also appropriated the means through which art is presented and positioned within a larger system. Féminismes Électriques focuses on these multi-layered and heterogeneous feminist interventions in contemporary art, and begins with a basic question: how do we understand and activate a feminist politics in our artistic and cultural practices that critically engages with relationships of power in our society? Edited by Leila Pourtavaf, this bilingual collection features essays by Helena Reckitt, Thérèse St-Gelais, Trish Salah, Bernadette Houde, and Aneessa Hashmi, as well as a series of artist texts: Manon Tourigny in conversation with Stéphanie Chabot and Dominique Pétrin, Reena Katz with Jumana Manna and Onya Hogan-Finlay with Chris Kraus. The publication includes an artist poster by G.B. Jones as well a detailed programming history of a decade of the gallery's programming byRoxanne Arsenault. The extensively illustrated book was designed by Cecilia Berkovic. Appel de dossiers Date Limite 15 Octobre 2012 Call for Submissions Deadline October 15th, 2012 Fondée et issue des mouvements féministes en 1973, La Centrale galerie Powerhouse est un des plus anciens centres d’artistes autogérés du Québec. Le centre s’est donné pour mandat de développer les pratiques artistiques féministes et de soutenir la visibilité d’artistes et d’initiatives moins ou peu représenté-es auprès des institutions culturelles établies. Le centre encourage les artistes à toutes les étapes de leur carrière afin de permettre les échanges intergénérationnels. Le centre a pour objectif d’offrir une plateforme pour les langages en art actuel porté par les discours féministes, les théories du genre, la diversité culturelle et la transdisciplinarité.  Nous accueillons des propositions pour des projets d'expositions et de performances qui répondent à ces thématiques. La sélection des propositions est effectuée par le comité de programmation, qui est composé de membres du centre et de ses employées. Growing out of the feminist art movement and founded in 1973, La Centrale Galerie Powerhouse is one of the oldest artist-run centers in Quebec. The center’s mandate expands on a history of feminist art practices and engages a broader spectrum of underrepresented artists and their initiatives within established art institutions. We promote the work of artists at all stages of their careers to allow for intergenerational dialogue. The centre's objective is to provide a platform for contemporary art in dialogue with feminist thought, gender theory, as well as intercultural and transdisciplinary practices.  We invite artist project proposals for both exhibitions and performances, that respond in some way to these preoccupations. Projects are selected by the Programming Committee, which is composed of members of La Centrale and programming staff. Results will be mailed or e-mailed up to 3 months after the submission deadline.
